What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I would love to do a true around-the-world backpacking trip one day. I'm an avid traveler and have done several shorter regional trips, but I'd love the challenge and opportunities to learn and grow that a longer and more varied journey could bring.

Outside of work, I enjoy collecting sports memorabilia. What started as a hobby during the COVID-19 pandemic has turned into a passion, and I’m always on the lookout for the next great addition to my collection.

What’s something people are always surprised to learn about you?
Before joining the University of Illinois, my husband and I owned and operated Midwest Smokehouse, a log cabin BBQ food truck. It was quite an adventure—and something that always surprises people! If you were in Rantoul 25 years ago, you may remember us on the corner of Routes 45 and 136 or at one of our many events. You might have even been one of our customers!

What is something that has always inspired you?
I’ve always loved lighthouses. There’s something about their quiet presence and steadfastness that’s inspired me for years. They’re peaceful, timeless, and they just make me smile.

What brings you the most joy outside of work?
My top priority is making memories with my eight grandchildren. To stay active and give back, I dedicate my time to volunteering at various service organizations, flower gardening, and taking long walks in nature.
