Finding Your Why

Not sure where to start with community involvement? This one-session, interactive seminar helps you connect your skills and interests to meaningful opportunities in Champaign County.

No prior volunteering experience needed. Come for one session—leave with a clear, realistic next step.

Meet others across campus who are exploring ways to give back—without overcommitting.

What to expect

Through guided reflection exercises, skill-mapping, and practical planning tools, you’ll start identifying the causes that matter most to you—and how you can contribute in ways that are realistic, sustainable, and impactful.

You’ll leave with:

  • A clearer picture of how your experience can support causes you care about
  • A realistic way to fit volunteering into your life (now, not “someday”)
  • A starting plan for future community involvement
  • New connections with colleagues who also want to make an impact

Want to go further?

This session also serves as an introduction to Emerging Community Leaders @ Illinois (ECL@IL)—a cohort program for faculty and staff who want to deepen their community involvement and leadership through nonprofit service. If you decide to continue your journey, you’ll still have time to apply after attending.
